The STAR award is SRLA's way of giving special recognition to individuals who unselfishly and enthusiastically provide outstanding leadership. The SRLA administrative staff gathers together and each staff member submits names of volunteers, marathon leaders, community members, and/or students who have had an ongoing commitment to the vision and goals of Students Run LA. Expectations of STAR award recipients include:

- Providing the safest, most positive environment possible in support of student achievement.

- Contributing above and beyond the expected duties of their particular SRLA role.

- Promoting the best qualities of character that we wish to model for our students and marathon leaders.

- Taking the initiative and working to help individual groups and the entire SRLA program function at its best.

- Respecting and supporting the policies and structure of SRLA

- Representing the entire SRLA program with pride and enthusiasm in what they say and do.

Simply put......the STAR award is presented to "someone who continually goes the extra mile for SRLA"
